Cardstock – the New Gold?

849

I just about fell over in the card aisle at the store today. I was searching for two simple child birthday cards. I found them both quite quickly – nothing special, a teddy on one and a bunny on the other. I turned them over expecting to see no more than $3 as they literally were just card stock folded in half – no glitter, music, or detachable parts. I had to blink several times when I saw the price of $7 for each. You have got to be kidding me – that’s about a quarter of the value of the gifts! If I wanted to spend that much, I would have bought bigger/better gifts!

Thinking about this, though I don’t condone it at all, I expect to see prices like these for the ‘Hallmark Holidays’ like Valentine’s Day. Did I still buy a V-Day card? Yep. But for a one and two year old’s bday parties? Not bloody likely.

What’s your take on card buying?
